A downloadable Level

Sunset Search is a 15 minute multi-target bounty hunt for the FarCry 5 Arcade. This project was made for the Level Design Jam 6 - Non-linearity Hosted by Steve Lee.

Project Goals

  • Non-linear, 360 degree play
  • Multi-directional gameplay
  • Achieve two things that I admire about Dishonored 2 levels.
    • Creating an open space that rewards exploration and experimentation. 
    •  Giving the player a lot of opportunities to observe the world as a fly on the wall.
  • I wanted to provide player agency, leaving it open how they complete the mission. Telling them what to do but not how to do it. And then supporting them in their endeavors with a variety of weapons to discover around the map, and each area crafted with both stealth and combat taken into consideration.

Features 

  • Rewarding exploration - Pickups around the map, some hidden more than others. Most loot is accompanied by a lit lantern. (visual language, long distance, see in the dark)
  • Verticality 
    • Generous use of grappling hook ledges to allow the player to approach most situations from above.
    • Grappling hook swinging gameplay.
    • Ample opportunities for the player to observe from above. 
  • Killing enemies leads to an escalating challenge
    • First waves of standard re-enforcements will enter the area, agitated and actively searching for the player
    • Second, elite teams will enter the area. They can kill the player quickly, and they are challenging to defeat.
