A downloadable game for Windows

World Mover is a first person exploration puzzle platformer level designed for Level Design Jam 8 hosted by Steve Lee.

Please be sure to play the latest build. The jam submission version is just for the jam. You can read a design overview of the project here.

The optional themes of the level design jam were Evolve and A Special Place. While I my initial level design on paper was based around the concept of Evolve, in the end I had to simplify my concept to reduce scope and get the level done within the deadline.

I used a level design kit provided by parisstacy. It gave me fun mechanics to work with and saved me a lot of time getting set up.

The project is a forever work in progress. I would love to get your playtesting feedback so that I can improve the player experience.

0.2.8 Playthrough Video

Level Design Jam 8 Note:
The version that I had completed the morning of the deadline was 0.2.3, so I will leave that up for the sake of fairness. Please feel free to play the latest version though if you don't care specifically about what was done for the deadline.

Hey!

I was browsing the submissions and found your's intriguing. Saw the playthrough, really liked it. My PC is not with me so can't play it :(

I was reading about the project and noticed you were using parisstacy's level design kit. Was this made available ? I saw on the page that the kit would be made available someday but no updates after that.

I too would like to use the kit :) Was this shared on the LD discord server ? Or shared by email/message ?

Paris said that if anyone wants it to share it with them, so here you go! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FPM32sq4IxuYqoCyb4f6ldBqzo0BS5lY/view

Thank you!!!

Very cool stuff! If you want to skip my long playthrough, there's also a conclusion at the end.

Thanks so much for playing! I'll check out the full video when I have time. Sorry about the giant hole in the level and any issues with the mantle controls you may have experienced. 0.2.2 was quite bad for issues :/

I hadn't even noticed a giant hole anywhere so you're good lol! The mantle controls felt snappy enough even in 0.2.2, it wasn't frustrating.

To answer your questions in the conclusion section:

Yes there are two exits, if it were a full game each would lead to a different starting point on the next level. I will make that clearer for the playtest with some additional text at the end.

I haven't had a chance to watch the full playthrough yet (I absolutely will), but if you didn't exploit the engine (force yourself through a wall or something) then you didn't cheat. I wanted it to be non linear. Sometimes there are sections with very easy bypasses, and I learned while making the level that it's ok if there are easy bypasses for more difficult challenges, because the player usually enjoys the solving/feeling clever part moreso than engaging with the intended challenge.

Thanks again for your time! I'll check out your submission and give a playtest video back. (I believe you said you participated)

Hey I just finished watching your playthrough. It was pretty joyful seeing you engage with the level and enjoy it. You were golden path adjacent most of the time. You definitely took some alternate solutions but nothing that wasn't intended to be an option. Thanks so much for your playtest. I will prioritize checking out your level and giving a video playtest as soon as I get a chance.

My submission is pretty small and I had to quickly wrap up the end of it, but I'd appreciate it nonetheless!
